Of all the counties in Texas, 47 have flags. While most of these flags have been officially adopted, some counties display their flag without being officially adopted. Most flag adoptions occurred during the nation's bicentennial . Other adoptions took place in conjunction with a special event that occurred in a particular county.

Earlier flags expressed disapproval of the Mexican government. Later flags reflect the counties' positions in the state of Texas.
